Forest school or other outdoor learning

Learning outside the classroom should be an integral part of the curriculum. It is artificial to imply that all learning takes places within four walls. Children gain so much benefit from being in the outdoors, in nature, and following their own interests, at the same time building social, emotional and physical skills.

Why the contribution is important

In terms of budget, many schools are at full capacity and struggling for extra classroom space - instead pupils oculd be taken outside on rotation - the outdoors provides a valuable additional classroom, for free. Exploring the local area also gives pupils a sense of place and belonging to the wider community.
