easy to save public money

the most obvious way to make savings in the border area is to cut payments to councillors. they all shout about doing something to help the area. the best way this can bo done is to do what was done for years and years by councillors and give their service for allowances only.there are far too many with snouts in the trough who would squeel if this was introduced but a better class of councillor would step in to serve the area

Why the contribution is important

this is important as the savings are what is required and a new set of counillors prepared to work for the borders is what is wanted

I know a few of the councilors and I believe that they deserve to be paid for the work that they do. Sometimes, I don't agree with whatever political approach that they take but my experience of councilors is largely of people who diligently do what they can to help their community regardless of political bias. Help is required at community councilor level where we, the public, can push ideas towards our regional representatives to make them earn the wage they're paid, sadly though, very few volunteers are prepared to stand up and be counted.

I would prefer to reduce the number of Councillors and remunerate them fairly. Just because they stand for elections does not mean they should do it for nothing. We need quality Councillors not just people that can afford to do it for nothing.

The Councillors need to be paid fairly for their work.
Most of them do a job which most of us would not do, and they have to stand for re-election.
If you don't think they are value for money, you can always vote for somebody else next time.
I really don't know how many councillors we should have.
