Lite but strongly supportive Council

The making the best use of our people, management review of professional and support services 6% reduction over 5 years suggests a lack of reforming ambition. The reduction should be at least 25%  ie £13 million (with a view to re-investing some in modernisation). The process should seriously challenging in-house provision (such as ITC and Media) as well as sharing back office functions with neighbouring authorities or other public bodies; the Chief Exec function should lead by undertaking a 50% reduction. It should also involve a significant reduction in estate and  directly owned assets. The process should also challenge the Council to move from a body providing services to one ensuring appropriate access to support, care and protection services.

Why the contribution is important

My idea is important, given that the largest area of expense for the council is people, because most of the other suggestions being put forward at best have only a marginal impact on the budget challenge and at worst cause arbitrary and piecemeal deteriation in services.
