Is it feasible to consider not gritting when the roads are dry and there is unlikely to be any precipitation during periods of fine weather?  Salt on the roads seems to make them damp when they were otherwise dry and perfectly safe.

Saves on grit/salt, man hours and fuel costs of vehicles.
